OLD Kids!!!

How many of you can relate? My kids no longer dress up for Halloween. However, they have a mother who thoroughly enjoys being silly. I remember them being little and how tiring it was to have littles under foot. How time consuming it was to get ready for anything. I remember thinking to myself, "It will be so nice when they can...." You fill in the blank. Now that they can do ...... I miss those days of them being little. I miss them thinking that I was funny. I miss them thinking that mommy could fix anything. I love the men they are becoming but miss the boys they were. Can anyone relate??????

I hope he grows up and remembers his childhood with fond memories of fun, laughter, and a silly mom.

If I can do it, You can do it!!!!

Let me start this post by saying if I can do these things then there is no excuse, you can do them to. I am no Joanna Gaines, but I do know how to follow her on Instagram. I follow other home decorators and through watching what they do and asking people I know I just figure it out!

Project - Husbands childhood dining room table
This table has been with my husband since before he can remember. So roughly this Oak table is 40 years old. We were given this beauty after my Father-in-love passed away back in 2002. So as you can see the stain that was on this table had worn off. It was in such bad shape that napkins would stick to the table and water marks were a common eye sore for this beauty. So I did what anyone thinks to do but doesn't. I was going to refinish my own table. So after many hours of going through Pinterest I decided to go for.

First STEP (1) SAND it down

Let me say that 40 year old stain is hard to remove. I even have an orbital sander. We used a very strong grit of sandpaper. It took 16 sheets of 60 grit paper to remove the stain from the table top. That's alot of grit People.

Second Step - Choose Stain. (the above pic includes the right side stained)
I really like this stain color.

Third Step - Stain

It only took one coat of stain for the top of our table. I WAS SHOCKED! This stain soaked in so well.
Fourth Step- Paint!!!
This is where child labor came into play. My Little wanted to help. So help he did. It took two coats of paint to cover the legs of this table.

Fifth Step - Wait!!
It takes time to dry. This is the hard part for me!! Tick Tock...Hurry up I'm ready to put you in my house.

Sixth Step- Polyurethane/Sand/Repeat.
This is the step you don't want to miss!! This step either makes or breaks your project. Put some Poly in a cup and then add a little Paint thinner to the Poly. This helps the poly go on smoothly (tip from a friend and owner of http://www.dutchmillcabinets.com/ Let dry. Then sand. Then apply a second coat of Poly. Let dry and repeat sanding and poly as many coats as desired. I did 2 coats of Poly on mine....

Seventh Step- ENJOY!!!

You are a 'Kim"dred Spirit

Howdy to my fellow 'Kim'dred Spirits!!!!
What is a 'Kim'dred Spirit? Well, it's the same as a kindred spirit. Someone whose interests and or attitudes are similar to mine. In order to find out if we are kindred spirits here's what I'm interested in.

1. I'm completely and utterly in Love with Jesus!
2. I'm completely and utterly in love with my husband of 19 years.
3. I'm completely and utterly in love with my two children. (Boys)
4. I'm hopelessly in love with books....particularly children's books.
5. I'm a complete COFFEE Addict.
6. My passion is teaching!
7. I love the idea of home projects.....and home make-over shows!!!
8. I love SUGAR!!!! (Even though I know how bad it is)
9. I love performing!!! Community Theater and for anyone who will watch.
10. I'm super frugal.......bordering Cheapness!

That's probably a pretty quick assessment.  But if you fall into these 10 interests than you are a 'Kim'dred Spirit!!!! This blog will be basically based on all of the above interests.
